  • Getting Older

I was able to use the company's proxy to log on to Xanga, hopefully I won't get caught and kick off the net.  I kind of feel like a noob hacker now, maybe I should give myself a handle like Zero Cool from Hackers.

Today is my friends birthday and on her FB update she said that she doesn't mind getting older, just that its a purposeful life.  That made me think about myself and everything I've done and accomplished till this point.  I may not be a doctor or have a college degree (on hold for the moment), but I have seen a lot of stuff and experienced stuff that the majority of this world will never done - I am content.

  • I'll Never Know

I'm horrible at English and twice as bad with grammar.  Over the years I've taught myself to correct and teach myself good habits with my writing and life.  I may still make mistakes here and there, but I learn from them.  When I was younger I hated ever subject in school, to this day I have no idea why?  Was it because I didn't understand, was it not interesting enough or did I think it would serve a purpose later on in life - I'll never know.

  • Scud

Back in 2005 my unit and I got deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom.  This was my first deployment since 2000 when I was send to Kuwait for Operation Desert Spring, which was just like a fieldtrip to Kuwait for some stupid training; the Army called it war training.

My first impression about Iraq was that I believed that green trees and plants were forbidden in the country.  Not once did I see and a bush, fern or tree growing…on our base at least.

Anyways,  towards the middle of the deployment I had to go into the Green Zone (or IZ) to get my passport made.  Let me give you a little insight about what the Green Zone is.  The Green Zone is where the center capital of what was once Saddam’s great regime.  After the invasion in 2002 the US took over this area and made it the headquarters’ of the operation.  Well inside this horde of chaos is Mr. Saddam’s palace, also called the Alpha Palace.

When I first walked inside I couldn’t help but feel like I just stepped into some cheap hotel.  The place smelled like old cheese and cigarette butts, with a dash of wet dog.  The main lobby is clouded with a huge chandelier that is supposedly worth over 2 million dollars.  In my opinion I think it came from some Chinese swap-meet.

The palace is filled with rooms and old Iraqi krap, but the most interesting room I stumbled upon was the Chapel room.  It’s a huge room with Roman styled pillars lined across the walls.  When you look up you’ll see Scud missiles arching across the ceiling punching its way through the clouds…I’m guessing they’re headed to the US.  I can imagine Saddam bring in some girl and showing off this room, “hey wanna see my scud’s?”.

  • No Name

The weather is starting to change again, much quicker then I thought it would happen.  Cold weather is definitely something I’m not looking forward to.  I started pulling out all me cold weather gear the other day, just so that I could be prepared.

     Random Happenings:

    1.  I got a iPhone on my last trip to Thailand.  Now that I have one, I don’t know how I could ever live without it.  Apparently I got one that is super-duper unlocked and I can take it anywhere in the world and have it update without worries of getting it locked.

    2.  I got back into World of Warcraft.  This time my online time is limited (by me).  I give myself 2 hours a night , to prep my characters for the new expansion.

    3.  Bodyslam is a Thai rock band.  A friend posted a music video of them a few months ago and so far I’ve been hooked.  I’m currently in the process of covering one of their songs.
